RV & Motorhome Mexican Insurance for US Travelers
Your motorhome is a high-value vehicle and a home on wheels. Mexican insurance protects the coach, anything you tow, and the belongings inside — required by law and built for the way RVers actually travel.
Insurance That Matches Your Rig
Mexico requires every vehicle on its roads to carry valid liability insurance from a Mexican-licensed insurer, and an RV is no exception. Your US or Canadian RV policy is not recognized by Mexican authorities, so a genuine Mexican policy is the only way to drive legally and stay protected. Because motorhomes carry far higher values than a typical car, the coverage has to be written to match — both the liability limits and the physical-damage value on the coach itself.
We write Mexican insurance for the full range of recreational vehicles: Class A diesel and gas coaches, Class B camper vans, Class C cab-over motorhomes, fifth-wheels and travel trailers, and the small car or Jeep many travelers tow behind — the "toad."
What an RV Policy Can Cover
The Towed Vehicle and Trailer
Most RVers pull something — a dinghy car, a Jeep, a utility or boat trailer. Each towed unit should be listed on the policy with its own value. A trailer or toad that isn't declared may not be covered if it's damaged or stolen, so make sure every piece of your rig is on the policy before you cross.
Annual Policies for Snowbirds
If you winter in Mexico or make the trip more than once a season, an annual policy almost always beats buying short-term coverage each crossing, and it means you're never tempted to drive uninsured between trips. Claims on the coach settle in US dollars at US labor rates so a repair reflects what the work really costs. Pair liability with full coverage to protect the value of the coach itself.
Taking your RV to the Mexican mainland also requires a Banjercito Temporary Import Permit (TIP) and an FMM tourist card. The Baja peninsula and the Sonora Free Zone don't need a TIP. Those are separate government requirements — your insurance policy is in addition to them, not a substitute.
